Over 100 less privileged people in Chitungwiza were left with smiles on their faces as Mayor Councilor Rosaria Mangoma donated grocery hampers worth US$4000 yesterday.

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) ministries leader Prophet Walter Magaya donated US$3 000 towards the Mayor’s Cheer Fund whilst Chitungwiza raised US$1000.

Beneficiaries included the elderly, people with disabilities and some victims of December 2023 flash floods.

“I felt that I should also lend a helping hand to the victims of flash floods that were experienced last month who include Gogo Phillis Cement, who resides in Unit N with four grandchildren, three of whom are minors,” she said.

“Join me in expressing gratitude to Prophet Walter Magaya and other stakeholders who made donations that have made this day a success,”

Mangoma reveled in the achievements made by her predecessors, former mayor councilor Lovemore Maiko and former acting mayor Kiven Mutimbanyoka last year.

“Despite ups and downs, 2023 was a great year for Chitungwiza as the council managed to procure more state-of-the-art equipment and utility vehicles, among other achievements. We acquired earthmoving machines, a tipper truck, and a fire tender. I salute those who came before me for their astute leadership that made it possible to achieve that,” she said.

“Although we celebrate 2023 achievements, we were found wanting as we failed to give to the underprivileged through the Chitungwiza Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund,”

“However, it’s better to be late than never, the festive season might be over, but the need to assist is not over we should therefore be our brother’s keepers,”

“Giving does not end today, and it is our sincere hope that we will make more donations as the year progresses”.

Items receive are mealie meal, sugar, cooking oil, rice, soya chunks, Mazoe, salt, washing and bathing soap, toothpaste, tea leaves and mints.
