Junior Mayor His Worship Oswell Anesu “Moses” Musunda yesterday donated 225 golden yellow Juranta trees to Seke 5 High School as part of his environmental greening initiative aimed at promoting sustainability in schools.
The trees, sourced from the Junior Mayor’s home nursery, were distributed and planted with the assistance of both students and staff.
This marks the second school reached under the programme, following a similar donation of 204 Juranta trees to Tadzikamidzi Primary School in March this year.
“The purpose of this initiative is to support schools in creating greener and more sustainable learning environments, raise awareness on climate action, and promote student engagement in environmental care,” said Musunda.
He noted the positive reception from the school community.

“The school administration received me warmly, and the learners showed great enthusiasm and active participation,” he said.
Musunda was accompanied by fellow junior councillors Hon. Kumbirai Mandioma, Hon. Ropafadzo Chishanu, and Hon. Takunda Kaseke.
“Their presence brought encouragement and reinforced unity within the Junior Council,” he added.
Junior Council Focal Person Mr Tafadzwa Kachiko commended the initiative, calling it a model for youth-led environmental action.
“This programme shows what young leaders can achieve when they take ownership of community issues. The junior mayor is setting an example not just for his peers, but for the broader society,” he said.
Musunda expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the school leadership and my fellow councillors for their coordination and support. I look forward to implementing more impactful initiatives that empower schools and promote a greener Chitungwiza,” he said.
