The year 2023 will always be remembered in the history of Chitungwiza as the period when the council acquired more state-of-the-art equipment and utility vehicles.
During the year, the council procured state-of-the-art earthmoving machines, a tipper truck, and a fire tender that will go a long way in improving service delivery in the town.
Chitungwiza Mayor Ms Rosaria Mangoma told Chitungwiza News that the achievements were a sign that the council was moving in the right direction.
“These were very notable achievements made by the council in 2023, and it was a positive move in the right direction. We must continue pursuing this route as it will enable us to change the fortunes of our great Municipality,”
“We, however, need to purchase more refuse trucks so that waste can be collected twice per week for a clean environment. We need to rehabilitate our sewer infrastructure and provide sufficient portable water to our residents.
“Our ultimate goal is to become a smart heritage city by 2030.
Former acting mayor and councillor, Mr. Kiven Mutimbanyoka, who commissioned the yellow machines and four utility vehicles, said during the commissioning the success was a result of unity.
“We took delivery of the yellow machines last Friday, August 18, 2023, while the tipper truck was delivered two weeks ago. You have to note that it was never easy for us to achieve this great fit. The road was bumpy, but at the end we managed,” he said.
“I am very glad that we were able to procure such heavy machinery within a short period because it had been long since the municipality had purchased something of this magnitude.
“And may I also mention that this is not the only heavy equipment we purchased, but there is also a motorized grader, which is part of this lot?”
Mr. Mutimbanyoka commended the councillors for working with the management at Chitungwiza and for their support.
“We are saying that this is just the beginning of good things to come. I implore the incoming council to continue with the positive mindset of ensuring that they work together with management and staff for the betterment of our beautiful municipality.”
Such a development was last witnessed in 2014, when the local authority procured a front-end loader.
