Govt applauds efforts to tackle sewer challenges

Government has expressed satisfaction with Chitungwiza Municipality’s efforts to tackle perennial sewer challenges and its recent procurement of an excavator and two tow trucks.

The commendation was made by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Senator Charles Tawengwa, after touring sewer rehabilitation projects and commissioning the new equipment.

Minister Tawengwa, accompanied by provincial heads and the Joint Operations Command (JOC), visited the sites to assess progress three weeks after his previous tour.

Chitungwiza is undertaking a two-phased sewer rehabilitation programme, which involves replacing old concrete pipes with 800mm glass-reinforced pipes (GRP) over a 5km stretch, contracted to Infradevcor.

Speaking after the tour, Minister Tawengwa said, “We are happy that you have once again afforded us the opportunity to tour your projects. I was here on September 3 for the first phase. Today, we witnessed impressive progress, and we congratulate the contractor for executing the project well. I am glad there have been no complaints so far.”

“Let me also congratulate Chitungwiza for the equipment we commissioned a few minutes ago. That was purchased from your own funds — an investment we applaud. It reflects correct, purposeful, and responsible utilisation of resources contributed by the residents of Chitungwiza.”

The minister further noted that the Zengeza Outfall Rehabilitation Project is expected to be completed by the end of November.
