Manyame Church of Christ has today donated a solar-powered borehole to St. Mary’s clinic, which would go a long way in the fight against cholera.
The Church of Christ officially handed over the donation to Chitungwiza Municipality on February 6 before a council delegation led by the Finance Director, Mrs. Evangelista Machona, who was representing Acting Town Clerk, Mr. Japson Nemuseso.
Church of Christ Pastor, Mr. Godwin Marambire, said his church was prompted by the cholera outbreak to drill the borehole at St. Mary’s Clinic, where the Cholera Treatment Centre was established on October 20, last year.
“Due to the outbreak of cholera, we decided that we needed to have a borehole at this clinic. We appreciate you accepting this donation; some would block it. We hope that this will assist patients and the community,” he said.
“This donation is not coming from us but from God. Water belongs to God. We are happy that when we drilled this borehole, we found plenty of water. It was drilled down to 100 metres and it generates one litre per second.”
Accepting the donation Mrs. Machona said, “It’s a heed to the call of God. You have made this donation at an opportune time when we have a cholera outbreak, which is especially affecting this side of Chitungwiza.”
Acting Environmental and Health Services Director, Mr. Hebert Chirowodza, said the borehole will go a long way in assisting Chitungwiza to control cholera.
St. Mary’s Ward 3 Councillor Foster Chabuka also applauded the Church of Christ for the borehole donation.
